They also engage with other users by answering questions about various locations on Google Maps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s made to improve the accuracy of business information other people can find through GMB and Google Maps, and also so that other users can see first-hand accounts of what a local business is like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Guides earn points for their work \u2013 the more they contribute, the higher their level becomes within the program. High level contributors are rewarded with benefits and perks, like early access to new Google features, exclusive events, and special promotions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How You Become a Local Guide?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the good news: anyone with a Google account can become a Local Guide. You just need to sign up. This makes both platforms, which are very useful ways to discover local businesses, work better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want your Google My Business profile to outrank your competitors, then you need to tap into the Local Guide Program, and make sure your profile is comprehensive, helpful, and engaging to users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because Local Guide reviews tend to show up at the top of your business reviews, they will be the most viewed parts of your profile. Plus, reviews from these users tend to be longer, more detailed, and with photos and\/or videos attached to them, since this earns them more points. Getting impressive reviews from these users is a great way to boost your brand\u2019s reputation online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus, whether they leave a review, photo update, an answer in your Q&amp;A section, contributions from a Local Guide will positively impact your business locations\u2019 local SEO performance. Here are some of the ways I have encouraged more and more reviews from Local Guides:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep Your Google My Business Profile Updated<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure that Google My Business has all the information a user needs to know about your business. Aside from the basics, such as your address and operating hours, consider if they need to know what kind of facilities you have at your location, additional services you provide, links to your menu and social media profiles, and so on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make it a point to review and update your profile every so often as your business grows. The more descriptive your Google My Business profile is, the more likely you are to be discovered and reviewed by other users (Local Guides included).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respond to Your Reviews\u2013Even the Bad Ones<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Customers, in general, want to feel that businesses care about their experience\u2013which makes responding to their reviews a must. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightlocal.com\/research\/local-consumer-review-survey\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BrightLocal\u2019s survey on customer reviews<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows findings which should really drive this point home:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>89%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of consumers would be \u2018likely\u2019 or \u2018highly likely\u2019 to use businesses that respond to all reviews\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>59%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of users said they are fairly likely to use a business that responds to all reviews\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>52%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said they would use a business if a merchant responded to only negative reviews\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>22%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> say they\u2019re \u2018not likely at all\u2019 to use businesses that don\u2019t respond to any reviews\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So yes, you should reply to all the reviews on your profile, even the bad ones. It will show future customers who look you up online that you do care about their experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t Buy Reviews<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It might be tempting to reach out to Local Guides and incentivize them to leave a review or contribution to your Google My Business profile, but it\u2019s something I strongly do not recommend. The best engagement happens organically \u2013 plus, buying reviews violates Google\u2019s review policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, encourage engagement with your profile by adding its link to your other platforms and focus on building up an authentic relationship with your customers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use Feedback for Insights<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Guides are more likely to come back and continue engaging with your business if you\u2019re using their feedback to improve your business. Don\u2019t ignore reviews from other customers either \u2013 each contribution will give you valuable insights on your customer experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So reply and thank them for their feedback, and take note of any actionable points that they provide in their comments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key Takeaway<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understanding the Local Guide Program and how it affects your business is crucial if you\u2019re working on improving your presence online.
