In this blog post, I\u2019ll share with you actionable steps that will help increase the visibility of your website and get you more customers.<\/p>\n

Avoid Targeting Broad\/High Volume Keywords<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re new to SEO and you\u2019re looking for keywords to target for your products, the numbers can be quite blinding. Let\u2019s say one of your products is mountain bikes. You open up a keyword research tool and find out that the keyword \u2018mountain bikes\u2019 have more than 300,000 searches monthly in the United States.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s enticing but you trying to rank for that keyword is like you trying to push a brick wall. Now I\u2019m not saying that it\u2019s completely impossible but you need to consider one huge factor: your competition. And since you\u2019re dropshipping, it also means that there are other dropshippers like you who are trying to sell the same products.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re only starting to do SEO for your dropshipping website, focus on ranking for long-tail keywords and build your authority from the ground up. Long-tail keywords have low search volume but they do have higher conversion rates. SEO is a long game. The harder you try to reach for the top early in the game, the harder you\u2019ll fall. The harder you work starting from the bottom, the higher chance you\u2019ll succeed.<\/p>\n

I always say that a good measure for site structure is your important pages can be accessed by users in 1-3 clicks from the homepage.<\/p>\n

A good practice is to link all your major product category pages on the navbar of your website. From there, you can then start linking any sub-category pages or the products themselves right away. As long as it doesn\u2019t take too long for a customer to get to the product that they want, you\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n

Manage your Crawl Budget<\/h2>\n

You\u2019re dropshipping website may start small with a few products on display but as it grows, the number of webpages on your website will grow as well which also means that Google would have to crawl more pages on your website. It is only natural for e-commerce websites to have a lot of pages but before it gets out of hand, you would need to manage your crawl budget.<\/p>\n

A website\u2019s crawl budget is the number of webpages Google can crawl on your website. It is affected by different factors such as the total number of pages on your website and how much your server can take. We don\u2019t need to go too much into the technicalities but all you have to remember is you should focus your crawl budget on the important pages of your website.<\/p>\n

Use a robots.txt file<\/a> to block unimportant pages from being crawled by Google. Some of the first things you may want to be excluded from crawling are tag pages and archive pages. Be careful not to block any important pages from being crawled. If you want to know how many pages Google actually crawls on your website, you can access this data through your Google Search Console account. Go to Settings and click on the Crawl Stats report. Here, you\u2019ll see how many requests Google is making on your website every day.<\/p>\n

For example, if a user is in Australia, a CDN will use a cached version of your website on a server in Australia if available. It reduces the physical distance data has to travel to get to the user, therefore, reducing delays.<\/p>\n

This works best if you service multiple geographical locations and international customers. Acquiring a CDN may have extra costs, but I would say it\u2019s worth the investment.<\/p>\n
