Three years ago, I was blessed to be part of SEO Hacker\u2019s family<\/a>, in which I started as a link builder. As expected, it wasn\u2019t easy, especially with the fact that link building, and SEO in general is not something being taught in school.<\/p>\n

I was clueless.<\/p>\n

The good thing about it is that you can learn it along the way – experiences will teach you. Reading will never be enough. You really have to do it.<\/p>\n

And so I plunged in.<\/p>\n

But for weeks since I started, I\u2019m still not getting the response I\u2019m hoping from the webmasters. I\u2019m still not doing link building because there are no links being built at all.<\/p>\n

It was then I learned that link building is more than just about planting links, knowing how to send an email, and prospecting websites where you can build tons of links. It\u2019s a process, and each step requires time and dedication.<\/p>\n

And in the process, I saw that the \u2018outreaching\u2019 part is actually the hardest amongst all the others (yes, harder than prospecting, and writing a guest post)<\/em>, and that\u2019s where I\u2019m failing.<\/p>\n

However, it didn\u2019t stop me. In fact, it only shook me enough to make me try different approaches to see what\u2019s really working. Eventually, I found out what\u2019s working, and this gave me the highest guest post acceptance rate<\/a> in our team back then (and yes, that\u2019s a bragging right).<\/p>\n

Now that I\u2019m handling the SEO Hacker blog and the one receiving guest post requests, it brings back memories. And what\u2019s so funny and interesting is that there are still so many link builders doing the same mistakes I did before.<\/p>\n

All those mistakes and (of course) ways to be redeemed from them will be discussed in this post.<\/p>\n

8 Reasons Why your Link Building Outreach is not Working<\/h3>\n

1. You don\u2019t take time to personalize<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, you got it right!<\/p>\n

First is always about personalization. Because it\u2019s true, with tons of emails we\u2019re receiving each day, we don\u2019t have much time to read emails that are not interesting, moreover, emails that are not addressed to us – or technically addressed to us, but they didn\u2019t make it so obvious.<\/p>\n

Personalization is not just about inserting names – it starts with your subject line<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For example, it’s not good to do this:<\/p>\n

Instead, make your subject line so creative and catchy that they will surely open it.<\/p>\n

Some points to remember when creating your subject line:<\/p>\n

a. Keep them in lower cases, as if you\u2019re emailing a friend. Unless you email a friend like you\u2019re always mad.<\/p>\n

b. Intriguing subject line<\/a> like this<\/p>\n

usually get clicked, but be careful not to mislead your recipients, as they might put you in spam folder. Better make it direct to the point, like this:<\/p>\n

The other way to make your email personalized is to (of course) include the name.<\/p>\n

When I\u2019m receiving emails with only \u2018Hi!\u2019 or \u2018Hey!\u2019, I knew right then that the sender doesn\u2019t even make an effort to know who they\u2019re sending emails to. I mean they could\u2019ve just put \u2018Hey Pam!\u2019, or \u2018Hi Sean!\u2019.<\/p>\n

And the funny part is that the next line is: \u201cI\u2019ve been reading your blog for quite sometime now.\u201d<\/p>\n

And I was like, \u201cOh really? How come you don\u2019t know our names? Maybe you need a bit more reading.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t do the same mistake.<\/p>\n

We know that most guest contributions we\u2019re receiving are after the link. But even with that desire, it pays to put effort with your outreach and understand what kind of website you\u2019re trying to reach out. I will discuss more of that later.<\/p>\n
